CCMA member Vlastimil Drbal participated in the excavations at Haram Ramet el-Chalil (Palestinian autonomous area, Izrael) from 18th to 26th April 2016. This site was identified as Biblical, Ancient and Byzantine Mamre. The excavations was directed by Vincent Michel (University of Poitiers, France). The other project participants were three French archaeologists and eleven local residents (as archaeological technicians). The site of Haram Ramet el-Chalil was excavated by German scholar Andreas Mader in 1926-28 and later was studied by Israeli archaeologist Yitzhak Magen. The main aim of these new excavations is to find out the exact chronology of the site (which is, unfortunately, not entirely clear) by opening a few new trenches. The project will continue also in the following three years.
