Jan Kostenec is a founding member and a director of the Czech Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology. At present he works as a specialist in cultural heritage management at the Municipality of Prague.
Jan Kostenec graduated in art history (MA – 1998) and obtained his PhD. in classical archaeology (2007) at the Charles University of Prague. He specializes in Late Antique and Byzantine architecture and archaeology, focusing especially on Constantinople. Since 2004 he has been conducting an archaeological and architectural research in the complex of Constantinople´s Great Church, comprising the churches of Hagia Sophia and Hagia Eirene and their surrounding areas. He has been also collaborating with A. Tayfun Öner on the 3D reconstruction of the Byzantine capital – “Byzantium 1200.com”.
