The civic association and non-profit oranization, Czech Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology was founded in January 2009 and registered at the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic. After the new Code of Civil Law had been passed, it adopted the status of the “registered non-profit organization” and in October 2015 was registered at the local Court of Justice.
Czech Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology was founded by the three recent graduates of the doctoral studies of the classical disciplines (classical archaeology and art history). They maintained close contacts with foreign colleagues and institutions, even if they are not members of any academic institution at present.
Our aim is to deal with an academic study and also to popularize Classics, mainly the classical archaeology, among the general public. We intend to give public lectures, organize workshops and conferences and publish both the academic and popular publications.
At present the Centre conducts the theroretical research, but also two fieldwork projects in Greece (Crete) and Turkey (Istanbul) – see the “Projects” section of this web. In the future, as we hope, we would like to establish the local branches in some of the Mediterranean countries to be allowed to deal with own fieldwork projects. We would like to get funding from both Czech and international grant agencies, foundations, companies and individuals. We would be much obliged for any financial support (further information how to support us can be found in the “Support us” section of this web). Your contributions are tax deductible.
