Vlastimil Drbal studied history, German and classical archaeology at Charles University in Prague. Specialized in the Late Antique Near East, he has two large topics he deals with. The first one are the Late Antique mosaics from that area and their iconography (Socrates, mythological representations). The second one is the Late Antique pilgrimage; in this topic, he tries to describe the phenomenon without confessional borders, traying to establish similar features of the pagan, Jewish, Christian and Muslim pilgrimage in Late Antiquity.
